Kinton Ramen

Wow, it's been forever since my last post..apologies. My life is just not that interesting -___-

Anyway, Kinton Ramen (from the makers of Guu) opened up last month and so ever since then I really wanted to go.  Well, I finally went yesterday and I knew coming to this place I would be expected to wait a while. We ended up waiting around 40 minutes.

I forgot to take a picture of the restaurant ><, but here's the menu. Small selection - I got the Cheese ramen (yumz)

You can see the place is pretty narrow. We sat at a long table near the window which is also shared by others.  If I ever go next time, I'd like to sit by the open kitchen where you can watch the chefs cook your noodles :).

Top left is what I had - Cheese ramen, and yes that is a crap load of swiss cheese you see next to the pork belly. Pork belly was tender so I like :).  The broth was a little salty imo, but still okay.

Top right is the shoyu ramen with pork shoulder. My friend added extra seaweed to hers (note: it cost $1 more for the seaweed)

Bottom - Karaage spicy fried chicken, this wasn't bad :). The fried chicken is mild spicy so perfect for those who can't really eat spicy food.

Our bill was put in a little bamboo basket - so cute!

Total was a little bit under $30 with tax excluding tip.

Would I come back again? Yes, I'm not a picky eater and I don't mind waiting under an hour. Plus I want to sit by the open kitchen to watch where all the actions happen :). Hopefully by then, they'll have their liquor license so I can have a drink (or two).

Winterlicious 2012

It's that time of year again...Winterlicious where many restaurants offer a fix-priced menu. This year my friends and I went to Fred's Not Here. We had wanted to go for the longest time ever and we just never went! So this year we were set on going to Fred's Not Here.

Appetizer: Grilled eggplant
Main: Linguine with lobster tail
Dessert: Tiramisu

I found the overall meal was good, especially the main..the linguine was a bit spicy which was nice! However, I found the tiramisu average I'm guessing it could be store bought. Funny thing I noticed was that it seemed the restaurant was full of Asians haha xP - all taking pictures of their food of course (that also includes us lol)

Look at the cute portrait of the little puppy, I had to take a picture of it..I wonder if it's Fred's puppy haha.

This dinner was one of DL's last before she left for China to teach for half an year :(.

The second restaurant I visited for Winterlicious was at Cafe California. I highly recommend this restaurant! their food was SO good and apparently their homemade chocolate cake is to die for says LD. But too bad it wasn't on their winterlicious menu..so I'll be sure to come back for that cake haha.

Appetizer: Calamari (delish!)
Main: filet with vegetables
Dessert: Chocolate mousse cake

TN, LD and I had a pitcher of their Mama's sangria, it was pretty strong because at the end of the dinner..I felt tipsy and tired and I just wanted to go to sleep -__-.

Late post - Happy New Year

It's almost the end of the month and I haven't post an entry in a very long time. It's due to the fact that I'm extremely lazy!

Since it's still January, I can still wish everyone a Happy New Year right? Hahaha, and those who celebrate Lunar New Year - Happy new year! I didn't get a lot of red pockets this year maybe because I'm getting older idk haha. But today is actually the seventh day of the Lunar calendar and today is 人日. The literal translation being: human/person's day so aka everyone's birthday. We're all a year older! Gahh makes me realize I'm almost reaching mid 20s...

Anyway, a few pictures from this month to share...

The day after New Years, LD, RC and I headed down to Buffalo for a day trip. I originally wasn't gonna go but I was glad I did because I got to visit Target and CHEESECAKE FACTORY! (Yes, I had to capitalize that haha). We shopped at the Factory Outlets and Walden Galleria which btw is huge!

My first Target ever and where I bought the oh-so-famous Sonia Kashuk brushes and some items that we didn't have here in Toronto. Actually, Target is planning to make their debut here in Toronto...but that won't be happening until 2013 :(.

After a long tiring day, it was time to eat! This was my first visit (and hopefully not the last) to the Cheesecake Factory. Even though it was packed, we didn't have to wait that long..maybe half an hour? Not bad.

BBQ salmon with mash potatoes and corn. One thing I noticed is that American food portions are HUGE (good for the amount you're paying but not so good for your health haha) I should've opt for the skinny menu that they had. I couldn't finish this meal and had my friends help me out lol.

And of course we can't leave the restaurant without eating the ever famous cheesecakes they have! RC originally suggested to order two pieces to share and both LD and I said "You're nuts!"
So we ordered this Red velvet cheesecake and it was MORE than enough for the three of us!
I thought it tasted really good, but LD and RC said it was okay...I guess they're not much of a cheesecake fan like I am.

Here's LD and I holding the menus haha

This was a few weeks ago, had dinner at Song Cook (located at Yonge & Steeles) with MG. Song Cook is one of those restaurants where you have to take your shoes off and sit on the floor which is heated! How awesome is that? Makes your bum all warm and toasty hahaha :p

Chai Latte @ Aroma Expresso Bar located at Bathurust & Bloor. I've always wanted to go to Aroma for coffee and I finally did when I met up with a friend to catch up. I love Chai lattes and Aroma's chai latte was good! But it's hard to find seats since it's always preoccupied with students "studying".

My graduation was two weeks ago Wednesday and it was raining the whole time. So it was a bit hard to take pictures outside. At one point, the wind blew my cap away haha but no worries I got it back.

I have my degree framed but it's currently sitting on my desk instead of hanging it up on the wall =\. Ooops.

Anyways, moving on...

This past weekend, TN had free movie tickets so we watched The Ides of March with George Clooney and Ryan Gosling (drools). It's a political type of drama but I liked it! Good movie! Close to the ending, I kept on staring at Ryan Gosling and totally wasn't paying attention to the lines in the movie and next thing you know the credits started rolling and I was like wtf did the movie just end? I had to ask TN what happened in the end and she asked if I was even listening and I said no because Ryan Gosling's face was so distracting lmao.

Haha this was taken at Taste of Kingsway (it's like Taste of Danforth but on Kingsway haha) a few weeks back, kids in a bubble floating on water. For every kid that misbehaves, just put them in a bubble and send them away lol. I'm kidding.

Anyway, I've been really unmotivated lately to update my blog. Plus, I have other things to worry about then to update lol such as: finding a job!! Now that I'm done uni, finding a job is my #1 worry and I just feel so lost. I've been sending my resumes left and right and only had a few interviews..when I say few it's really a few -____-. I feel like a lost puppy and need someone to guide me haha. I do have a direction of where I want to go though, but it's just a matter of knowing how to get there.

Ok, let's move on haha. The last picture I want to share is:

OPI nail polishes for $6 each at Taste of Kingsway! Great deal or what? We each picked up two minus JK 'cause she was stilling hunting for food lol.

Wednesday, August 17, 2011

I had my birthday dinner about a week and half ago (I am now 2...............3 *sigh lol) with my closest friends minus DL who was in Korea at that time. I originally wanted to have dinner at Panorama 180 but I read a lot of bad reviews. So we decided on Joey (the one next to Eatons), I also heard their drinks were pretty good too. And I'm glad we went because it was *thumbs up*.

We sat right in the patio area right next to an open area yay! I was reading a card LD made me when she was at the office, what she wrote was pretty hilar.

We all had peach bellinis - it was good! But I also heard the blue mojito was another favourite! Will definitely try that next time!

TN and I had the lobster ravioli, it was delicious! Joey's menu was actually created by a chef (don't remember his name) that participated on Iron Chef Japan.

LD had the maple glazed salmon(?) - was really good!

JK had the rotisserie chicken and the chicken was huge!

Our first dessert - chocolate lava (?) or something like that. This was too sweet imo.

Apple crumble - also too sweet for me!

Going to the washroom at Joey's was like a journey LOL! It's at the back of the restaurant and you go downstairs and when you turn you go down on another set of stairs. After that you walk through the hallway and turn right before reaching to the washroom. Anyway, funny story..I didn't see this but I was in the stall when it happened but apparently some guy used the women's washroom LOL and when he came out of the stall he saw my friend washing her hands and he was like "Sorry, am I in the women's washroom?" and my friend said yes and the guy apologized! Hilarious..

Anyway, that was my first time going to Joey but probably will be going back again. I really like the atmosphere :D and I would really like to try the blue mojito next time!

Night it Up - night market

Long time no update, busy with school and work..finishing my last undergraduate course and I'll be done FOREVER haha.

So I went to the Night it Up night market two weeks ago, it was packed like sardines and it was HOT. Look at the crowd! But nothing compares to the crowd in night markets in Asia haha.

First thing I got was this - pineapple juice! It was 2 for $11 but I found another stand where it was $8 and FREE refills. This was pretty heavy to hold.

TN loves to eat poutine so she got excited when she saw "Asian" poutine. wtf is asian poutine anyway? lol well this one is pretty much ground beef? in sauce, cheese and gravy that tastes weird.

We all got excited when we saw raw oysters <333 LOVE. I think it was two for $10 don't remember. But I do remember it being tasty :D!

Takoyaki <3

Yes, all 9 of those were ours haha. Kidding, just those four. TN ate only one and didn't like it..how can you not like takoyaki lol, so RC, LD and I all had to finish hers.

We also had HK style stinky tofu, if you can read the sign it says 全加之臭 臭豆腐 (translation: the most smelliest stinky tofu). BUT it wasn't stinky at all and it tasted ok. The taiwanese one a couple vendors away was the smelliest.

HK style stinky tofu

So overall, great atmosphere - i had a fun time, going to the night market reminded me of the night markets I went to in Taiwan ..miss it there :(.

I also went to the TNT night market this past weekend and hate to say it but I had a horrible time. WHY? because it rained A LOT when we got there and we had no umbrella! Boo

Ohh 越南。。。我說什么好呢??我只是可以說越南的美食很好吃!×thumbs up。

Anyway, one of my students said that I'll be able to speak a little Vietnamese when I come back because apparently it's easy to learn. Well...I didn't learn a word :p, all I spoke there was Chinese, Chinese and more Chinese that I forgot my English :p! But what I did learn was....the food was good except for the dim sum (not good), I think I gained a few pounds when I came back -.-.

I spent CNY there, it was SO HOT and HUMID
